Knowing God Part 3: His Holy Word

The second way in which God reveals Himself to us is through His Holy Word. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. God has inspired this book so that we may know Him and love Him, and through knowing Him that we may obey Him. As Christians this book should be our guide, our daily handbook. This is the word of God! How can we not rely on it for every decision we make and every path that we take in our lives? In some countries it is illegal to own a Bible, and yet we most likely have three or four lying around collecting dust. So often we take the privilege of everyday having the opportunity to read and study the Word of Almighty God for granted.

Every word in our Bible is a precious blessing, every moment spent in communion with the Savior is a chance to become best friends with the creator of the universe! If we really believed that than we would spend every spare moment in His word. Do you really believe? It is an odd question to those of us who have "believed" ever since we can remember, but every once in a while it is a question that needs to be asked. If we really believed that Jesus Christ was the Son of God and Creator of the universe, and that we could converse freely with Him at any time I think we would be on our knees much more. If we believed that this God wrote a love letter to us so that we could truly know Him I think that our Bibles would not be quite so dusty. Do you really believe? Is your faith really real to you? Think about it.

Knowing God. It is not impossible, look at the wonderful resources that He has given to us! Of course we will never know Him perfectly, but I can guarantee that every single one of us can know Him better than we do presently. God has revealed Himself to us through His creation and through His Holy Word. He wants us to know Him, not just to know who He is or memorize passages of scripture, but intimately to know Him like you know your best friend. Please do not take the opportunity to really know Jesus Christ for granted, because there truly is no greater thing.

That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.
