"... Jesus, who delivers us from the wrath to come." -1 Thessalonians 1:10

It's true, of course, but what an odd way for Paul to describe Jesus. Usually He is "Savior" or "He whom God raised from the dead" or "the One sent by God."

But He is "Deliverer" too and how glorious it is!

Knowing Him, being under his care and branded with His blood, does not nullify the wrath to come or cause it to cease to exist, but delivers us from it. What a far more glorious testimony!

Look at all the fury of God poured out on mankind, but we are spared! And only because of Jesus. Like the Psalmist says of Him, the Eternal One, "You, O Lord, are a shield about me" (Ps. 3:3).
