Isaiah 58:11

"The Lord will guide you continually
and satisfy your desire in scorched places
and make your bones strong;
and you shall be like a watered garden,
like a spring of water,
whose waters do not fail."
-Isaiah 58:11

The Lord promises to guide us continually, but where? He promises to guide us to where our desire can be satisfied by Him. One desire? Yes, only one desire - to know Him. Where is this desire satisfied? In scorched places. Why scorched places? Because it is there that He truly becomes our All in All. He uses the times of loneliness, despair, and pain to draw us to Himself where our one true desire is satisfied. He purposely guides us to these places, but He will not forsake us there. He has promised to make us able to endure, to stand, to be victorious. And as He satisfies our deepest longing for Him we will become a haven of refreshment and beauty; an oasis amidst the arid desert around us, just as He was to us when we were brought from death to life. The life He is building in us will not fail to produce fruit, and when this life is over we will emerge from the scorched places in glorious victory.
