Abide

Why is it that I determine to do something, and a short time later have failed miserably? Oh, the disadvantages of human nature. Present at all times, ever thwarting our endeavors to do great things, and to succeed when we set out. The discipline that a life lived unto God requires is much greater than I ever allowed myself to believe. When it seems that chaos and constant activity is all that you have ever known it may be time to stop and spend a 'sweet hour of prayer' in the presence of your Master. There are things that must be completed; deadlines to be met, and meetings to attend, but life will utterly fail if we succeed in all but one thing. We must learn what it means to abide in Christ, and to allow Him to be the reason we live and move and have our being. Why do we do what we do? Why do we run frantically after the trivial things of life? Would missing all the deadlines in the world, and failing every test we ever attempted really matter if we knew what it meant to abide in Him?

Let yourself rest. Quiet yourself before the Lord. Put out of your mind your next assignment, the next deadline you need to meet. Take a lesson in stillness, in abiding, in Him.
